Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felur í sér að bið fyrir umhverfis-, orku- og loftslagsráðherra að kanna hvort hægt væri að byggja hátæknisorpbrennslustöð hér á Íslandi. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að Ísland framleiðir mikið magn af úrgangi sem ekki er hægt að endurvinna, og flestir af því endar á urðunarstöðum sem geta valdið mengun á grunnum. Núna er aðeins ein lítil sorpbrennslustöð í gangi hér og margar lönd í Evrópu nota hátæknisorpbrennslustöðvar sem brenna úrganginn og nýta hitann sem myndast. Ef tillagan myndi samþykkt, myndu stjórnvöld rannsaka hvort ábyrgt væri og hagkvæmt að byggja slíka stöð hér, sem myndi aðeins breyta því hvernig við meðhöndlum úrganginn okkar.
This parliamentary resolution proposes that the government investigate whether it would be feasible to build a high-tech waste incinerator in Iceland. The proposal was put forward because Iceland produces large amounts of waste that cannot be recycled, and most of it ends up in landfills that can cause pollution to groundwater. Currently, only one small waste incinerator operates here, while many European countries use advanced waste-to-energy facilities that burn waste and utilize the heat produced. If the resolution passes, the government would study whether it would be responsible and cost-effective to build such a facility here, which would change how we handle our waste.
