Ásthildur Lóu Þórsdóttir spyr dómsmálaráðherra um það hvers vegna einstaklingar þurfi að hafa lögheimili á Íslandi til að geta leitað gjaldþrotaskipta. Hún vill vita hvort þetta skilyrði samræmist reglum um frjálsa för vinnuafls í EES-samningnum, og hvort ráðherra telur rétt að breyta lögunum svo að Íslendingar sem búa erlendis geti einnig leitað gjaldþrotaskipta hér. Þetta skiptir máli vegna þess að mörg Íslendingar vinna og búa í útlöndum, en standa frammi fyrir því að geta ekki notað íslenska gjaldþrotakerfið þó þeir þurfi á því að halda. Svörin munu sýna okkur hvort ríkisstjórnin telur núverandi reglu sanngjarnt og hvort hún er reiðubúin að opna gjaldþrotakerfið fyrir Íslendingum erlendis.
Ásthildur Lóu Þórsdóttir asks the Minister of Justice why individuals must have an Icelandic domicile to file for bankruptcy, and whether this requirement complies with EES rules on freedom of movement. She also asks if the minister would consider changing the law to allow Icelanders living abroad to use Iceland's bankruptcy system. This matters because many Icelanders work and live overseas but are currently blocked from accessing Icelandic bankruptcy proceedings even when they need it. The answers will reveal whether the government sees the current rule as fair and whether it is willing to open the system to Icelanders abroad.
