Þessi þingsályktunartillaga leggur til að setja aftur upp tvö gömul skjaldarmerki á framhlið Alþingishússins sem voru þar þegar húsið var opnað árið 1881 en fjarlægð voru 1904. Annað merkin sýnir íslenska djarfan – krýndan þorska á rauðum skildi – og hitt sýnir danska fánann með þremur krýndum ljónum. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að menn vilja að Alþingishúsið líti út eins og það gerði upphaflega og að komandi kynslóðir geti séð og lært um sögu landsins og þá tíma. Ef tillagan verður samþykkt myndu þessi skjaldarmerki endurstaðsett og húsið væri þannig næmara upphaflegri mynd sinni frá því það var byggt fyrir rúm 140 árum.
This parliamentary resolution proposes to restore two historic coats of arms on the front of the Parliament House that were displayed when the building opened in 1881 but were removed in 1904. One shows Iceland's symbol – a crowned cod on a red shield – and the other displays the Danish flag with three crowned lions. The proposal was put forward because supporters want the Parliament House to look as it originally did and for future generations to see and learn about the country's history from that era. If passed, these coats of arms would be reinstalled, bringing the building closer to its original appearance from over 140 years ago.
