Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felur í sér að kaupa nýja ferju fyrir Breiðafjörð sem geti flutt farþega og vöru með öruggum og þægilegum hætti. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að gömlu ferjan Baldur, sem hefur siglt leiðina frá árinu 1924, er orðin gömul og þarf að skipta henni út með nýrri og betri ferju. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu íbúar á Vestfjörðum og við Breiðafjörð fá betri samgöngur með þægilegri og öruggari ferju sem væru knúin hreinni orku ef mögulegt væri. Á meðan bíð stendur eftir nýrri ferju myndu nota gömlu skipið Herjólf III til að halda ferjusiglingum gangandi og myndu einnig bæta hafnarmannvirki svo ferjan gæti komið fyrr í notkun.
This parliamentary resolution proposes purchasing a new ferry for Breiðafjörður that can safely and comfortably transport passengers and goods. The proposal was put forward because the old ferry Baldur, which has sailed this route since 1924, is aging and needs to be replaced with a newer and better vessel. If the resolution passes, residents of the Westfjords and around Breiðafjörður would get improved transportation with a more comfortable and safer ferry, ideally powered by renewable energy. While waiting for the new ferry, they would use the older ship Herjólf III to keep ferry services running and would also improve port facilities so the new ferry could be put into service sooner.
