Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felst í því að ætla Íslands ríkisstjórn að undirrita og samþykkja alþjóðlega sáttmála um algjört bann við kjarnorkuvopnum. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að margar þjóðir heims vilja standa saman gegn kjarnorkuvopnum, og 86 lönd hafa þegar undirritað samninginn. Flutningsaðilar telja mikilvægt að Ísland taki þátt í þessu alþjóðlega verkefni til að styrkja baráttu gegn kjarnorkuvopnum og sýna að við styðjum friðinn. Ef tillagan gangi í gegn myndu Íslendingar opinberlega segja að við vildum ekkert með kjarnorkuvopnum og værum tilbúin að bera ábyrgð á þeirri stefnu.
This parliamentary resolution proposes that Iceland's government sign and ratify an international treaty that completely bans nuclear weapons. The resolution was put forward because many countries worldwide want to stand together against nuclear weapons, and 86 nations have already signed the treaty. The supporters believe it is important for Iceland to participate in this global effort to strengthen the fight against nuclear weapons and show that we support peace. If the resolution passes, Iceland would officially declare that we want nothing to do with nuclear weapons and are willing to take responsibility for that position.
