Þessi þingsályktunartillaga leggur til að matvælaráðherra stofni starfshóp til að rannsaka hvernig hægt væri að nýta þörunga betur og skapa meiri virði fyrir efnahagslífið. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að stjórnvöld vilja nýta þörunga sem endurnýjanlega auðlind til að framleiða eldsneytið, matvæli, lyfjaefni og aðrar vörur á sjálfbæran hátt. Starfshópurinn myndi skoða hvernig lög geta stutt þörungaræktun, hvernig hægt væri að efla rannsóknir og nýsköpun um landið allt og hvernig styrkja megi eftirlitið. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu stjórnvöld fá tillögur sem myndu hjálpa til við að búa til ný störf á landsbyggðinni og nýta þörunga á sjálfbærari og arðbærari hátt.
This parliamentary resolution proposes that the Minister of Food establish a task force to investigate how seaweed could be better utilized and create more economic value from it. The proposal was put forward because the government wants to use seaweed as a renewable resource to produce biofuel, food, pharmaceuticals and other products in a sustainable way. The task force would examine how laws can support seaweed farming, how to boost research and innovation across the country, and how to strengthen oversight. If the resolution passes, the government would receive recommendations that could help create new jobs in rural areas and use seaweed in a more sustainable and profitable manner.
