Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felst í því að biðja matvælaráðherra um að rannsaka hversu mikið koltvísýrings og annarra gróðurhúsalofttegunda losna þegar fiskveiðarfæri ráska hafsbotni við Ísland. This parliamentary resolution proposes asking the food minister to investigate how much carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are released when fishing gear disturbs the seabed around Iceland. The resolution was put forward because we don't know exactly how large these impacts are, yet greenhouse gases stored in the seabed can be released into the atmosphere when fishing equipment is dragged across the bottom. The ocean plays a vital role in pulling carbon dioxide from the air and storing it on the seabed, and this process is being disrupted by human activity. If passed, the government could take action to reduce such emissions and protect the ocean's important work in fighting climate change.
