Þessi þingsályktunartillaga felur í sér að ráðherra skal fara í markaðskönnun á póstþjónustu til að komast að því hvort Íslandspóstur ætti að halda sérstöðu sinni eða hvort betur væri að opna þjónustuna fyrir öðrum fyrirtækjum. Tillagan var lögð fram vegna þess að gömul lög um póstþjónustu frá 2019 áttu að skapa meiri samkeppni og spara peninga, en það hefur ekki gerst – Íslandspóstur hefur ennþá markaðinn fyrir sér og almennir aðilar segja að það sé ósanngjarn samkeppni. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu stjórnvöld framkvæma rannsókn á því hvernig best væri að reka póstþjónustuna og myndu hugsanlega selja eða endurskipuleggja Íslandspóst til að leyfa öðrum fyrirtækjum að keppa.
This parliamentary resolution proposes that the government conduct a market survey on postal services to determine whether Iceland Post should keep its special status or if the service should be opened to other companies. The resolution was put forward because existing postal laws from 2019 were supposed to create more competition and save money, but this hasn't happened – Iceland Post still dominates the market and competitors claim the competition is unfair. If the resolution passes, the government would investigate how to best run postal services and potentially sell or reorganize Iceland Post to allow other companies to compete.
