This parliamentary resolution proposes that the Minister of Health implement public health impact assessment as a permanent system in Icelandic law. Public health impact assessment is a method for examining how new laws and government decisions could affect people's health and wellbeing. The resolution was put forward because Iceland faces major challenges—the population is aging, chronic diseases are increasing, and climate change poses threats. Without targeted action, healthcare costs will rise dramatically. If the resolution passes, all government bills presented to Parliament would go through a health impact assessment before final decisions are made. This would ensure that authorities make better and wiser decisions for the health of the nation's people.
