This parliamentary resolution proposes that Iceland ratify the Hague Convention on the international recovery of maintenance. The proposal was put forward because the current system discourages people from moving abroad, as child support payments stop if the recipient moves out of Iceland. If passed, Iceland would commit to better enforcement of maintenance payments for people living abroad, and there would be fewer barriers for parents and children to relocate between countries for education and work.
