Þessi þingsályktunartillaga leggur til að breyta því hvernig útvarpsgjaldir eru notaðir á Íslandi. Við það sem er, þurfa allir sem borga skatta að greiða gjald til Ríkisútvarpsins, en engu máli skiptir hvort þeir nota þjónustuna eða eru sáttir við hana. Tillagan bendir á að Ríkisútvarpið hafi of sterk valdastöðu vegna þess að það situr eitt með þennan gjaldstofn, og það slæmir fjölbreytni í fjölmiðlum. Ef tillagan nær fram að ganga myndu skattgreiðendur geta sent allt að þriðjung útvarpsgjaldsins til annarra fjölmiðla sem þeir kjósa, í stað þess að allt gangi til Ríkisútvarpsins. Með þessu myndu Íslendingar fá meiri rödd um hvert peningir þeirra renna og myndu aðrir fjölmiðlar fá betri tækifæri til að keppa.
This parliamentary resolution proposes changing how broadcasting fees are allocated in Iceland. Currently, all taxpayers must pay a fee to the National Broadcasting Service, regardless of whether they use its services or are satisfied with them. The proposal points out that the broadcasting service has too much power because it alone controls this funding source, which harms media diversity. If the resolution passes, taxpayers could direct up to one-third of their broadcasting fee to other media outlets of their choice instead of everything going to the National Broadcasting Service. This would give Icelanders more say in where their money goes and would give other media outlets better opportunities to compete.
